A 44-year-old man is in custody following a series of offences against elderly people in the Hagen region. A judge has issued an arrest warrant against him, which has since been executed.

The alleged offences took place over a period of roughly two weeks, between late June and early July. According to investigators, the man is said to have engaged elderly victims in conversation using a pretext and subsequently attempted to take jewellery from them, such as gold chains. Thefts of handbags and wallets are also reported to be under investigation.

An 84-year-old victim sustained a wrist injury from a fall during the attack. Police were able to locate the already-known suspect through evidence and witness statements. Further investigations are ongoing.
