Officers noticed the body with several injuries in the apartment where the 33-year-old mother lived. A doctor who was called could only confirm death. Police arrested the woman and took her into custody.
According to investigators, there are indications that the woman suffered from mental health problems. Her daughter had been placed in a Hamburg youth home. The search began on Saturday evening when the girl failed to return.
The homicide squad is now investigating the case. Police and the public prosecutor's office have released no further details for the time being. According to the NDR portal, the mother is expected to appear before court on Monday.
