In Burgenlandkreis in Saxony-Anhalt, several criminal incidents occurred overnight Wednesday to Thursday. According to the Saxony-Anhalt state portal, an accommodation facility for refugees in the municipality of Wethau became the target of an arson attack.
At around 1.30 a.m., residents noticed flames on a carport on the facility's grounds. The fire service was able to extinguish the fire before it spread to other buildings. Considerable material damage was nevertheless sustained. The criminal police are investigating on suspicion of wilful arson.
In the night to Wednesday, there was also an assault on police officers in Naumburg. Officers had previously taken a 17-year-old into custody who was suspected of committing an offence. The youth's father then appeared at the police station and demanded the release of his son. When the officers did not comply, the man attacked the police officers. He bit one of the officers on the finger and injured another by kicking. The 41-year-old was provisionally detained and is to be brought before a judge. Investigations are being conducted against him for resisting law enforcement officers and assault.
In addition, narcotics were found on a visitor to the prison in Halle (Saale). A drug detection dog alerted to the 37-year-old German man. During a subsequent search, officers found two sachets containing a substance, two tablets containing an active ingredient relevant under narcotics law, and a crack pipe. The items were seized and criminal investigations are being conducted against the man.
In Halle (Saale), a roller shutter of a business on Alfred-Oelßner-Straße was also defaced with paint. Police are investigating on suspicion of criminal damage.
