At Welfen Gymnasium in Schongau, a city approximately one hundred kilometres south-west of Munich, multiple people were injured on Tuesday. Bavarian police announced via X that a suspect was already in custody. Investigators appealed to the public to avoid the area widely.
It remained unclear exactly how many people were affected and how serious the injuries were. Police stated that these details were still being clarified. A care facility was set up at a local fire station for relatives of the school's pupils and students.
The authorities initially made no statement about the background of the incident or the nature of the act. Police were not immediately available for comment.
Germany has experienced several attacks on schools and markets in recent years that have deeply shaken the country. In September 2025, a 17-year-old Kosovar seriously injured a 45-year-old teacher at a vocational training centre in Essen with a knife. According to the indictment, the perpetrator acted from "jihadist" motives. He had also attacked a randomly selected passer-by and the caretaker of a primary school.
