A violent incident occurred at the Welfen-Gymnasium in the Bavarian town of Schongau on Wednesday at approximately 12.50 hours during school hours. An attacker injured at least two girls, who sustained stab wounds. According to available information, the victims are currently not in life-threatening condition.
The suspected perpetrator is a 16-year-old who fled the scene after the attack but was arrested by police shortly afterwards. A police helicopter was deployed in the search for him, and all emergency services were activated. Investigators are still clarifying whether the accused is a current or former student of the school.
The incident occurred on the school grounds in the immediate vicinity of the gymnasium. Security circles initially reported four injured persons, but police later confirmed that at least two girls were seriously injured. According to the ADAC air rescue service, a total of six helicopters were deployed, one of which had already transported an injured person to hospital.
Authorities called on citizens to avoid the area around the school. A contact point for parents and relatives of affected students was set up at the fire station on Bahnhofstrasse. The Welfen-Gymnasium is part of a school complex that also houses other educational institutions. Schongau is a small town on the banks of the Lech river in western Upper Bavaria with more than 12,000 inhabitants.
