In a workers' hostel on Rhedaer-Straße in Bielefeld, a bloody altercation broke out during the night into Saturday. A 32-year-old man from Romania is said to have inflicted multiple stab wounds to his 25-year-old flatmate's leg and an injury to his head using a knife.
According to information from Radio Bielefeld, the dispute occurred around 3:30 a.m. Other residents alerted the police. Officers from Gütersloh arrived at the scene to find the seriously wounded 25-year-old, who had already received first aid. They provided further treatment and handed him over to emergency services.
In the flat, emergency responders encountered the suspected attacker. Officers took the 32-year-old into provisional custody. In doing so, the Romanian had apparently injured himself. Both men were taken to hospitals for treatment. Initially, it could not be ruled out that the suspect was in life-threatening danger. His condition is now stable.
A murder commission of Bielefeld Police took over the investigation together with criminal investigators from Gütersloh. They are working to establish the exact course of events and the motive for the act.
On Monday, the defendant was brought before an investigating judge. The judge issued an arrest warrant for investigation purposes against the 32-year-old on grounds of grievous bodily harm.
