In the trial over the death of eight-year-old Fabian from Güstrow, the financial difficulties of defendant Gina H. are taking centre stage. The prosecution sees the woman's money problems as a substantial part of the suspected motive for the crime.

The defendant maintained five of her own horses and drove an expensive pick-up truck. Yet she apparently lacked the necessary funds to pay outstanding bills. Investigators found digital traces on her mobile telephone documenting her desperate attempts to obtain financial means.

In doing so, Gina H. relied on various sources. Her ex-partner, family members and an elderly benefactor are said to have provided her with financial support. How dependent she was on this assistance and what other means she pursued to obtain money are being examined in the ongoing proceedings before the Rostock Regional Court.

Eight-year-old Fabian from Güstrow in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania was found dead. The exact circumstances of the crime and the role of the defendant's financial problems are currently being clarified in court.
