A 44-year-old inmate sentenced to life imprisonment for murder escaped on Wednesday, 8 July, at around 15:00 from a correctional facility near Saarbrücken. The wanted man was identified as Mario Stegnitz. The 44-year-old is approximately 1.92 metres tall and of slim build. At the time of his escape, he was wearing a cream-coloured T-shirt, light blue long jeans and white Nike trainers.
German investigative authorities have launched a public wanted notice that also addresses the population in the French border region – particularly in Lorraine. The officers are urging all road users not to pick up hitchhikers at present.
