In the criminal proceedings concerning the death of eight-year-old Fabian, a forensic pathologist presented his findings from the autopsy to Rostock Regional Court. The ninth day of the trial proved so distressing for several present that at least one person suffering circulatory problems had to leave the courtroom.
The expert Johannes Manhart had examined the boy's body after his death. In the trial, he was to report on the circumstances of the discovery, the injuries on the body, and the presumed cause of death. His presentation with visual material pushed most observers in courtroom 2002 to their emotional limit.
During the testimony, the defendant showed little reaction. She rested her head on one hand, flicked through documents like a disinterested pupil, and occasionally made notes.
The investigating criminal chief inspector, who attended the discovery site, initially assumed it was a routine operation. The building was located in an inconspicuous residential area. Only when opening the cellar door did he discover the lifeless, naked boy.
