In Stade, a town in the Lower Saxony district, detonations in the late evening triggered a police operation. Witnesses reported gunshots near a petrol station at around 21:00. Police units from the town itself, surrounding stations and the riot police then drove to the scene.

The officers found several adolescents aged between 14 and 18 at the location. These individuals were already known to investigators from earlier incidents. During the investigation, two of them were linked to the incident.

A further group of five young adults aged between 16 and 20 stated they had previously become involved in a conflict with the others. One opponent had struck them with a hard object. Thereupon, another person had produced a weapon and fired multiple times. Whether the firearm was loaded with live ammunition could not initially be clarified. No persons were injured.

The officers arrested a 14-year-old and an 18-year-old provisionally. Both are accused of causing grievous bodily harm and of attempted manslaughter. The motives for the altercation are still being investigated.
