On Wednesday, a 16-year-old teenager attacked two 13-year-old classmates with a blade at a secondary school in Schongau in the Bavarian district of Weilheim-Schongau, inflicting serious injuries on them.

The investigating authorities reported that the suspect has been remanded in custody. He faces charges including attempted murder in two cases. The Upper Bavaria South police headquarters and the responsible public prosecutor's office confirmed the detention order.

According to information from the news agency DPA, the teenager was undergoing psychiatric treatment at the time of the incident. Classmates provided first aid to the two injured girls before emergency services arrived.

The school was temporarily closed following the incident.
