A man took a cashier hostage with a knife in a Berlin supermarket. After more than 11 hours, the SEK stormed the shop. Both were injured.

On Friday evening, a dramatic robbery took place in a supermarket in Berlin. A man who was standing at the checkout suddenly refused to place his goods on the conveyor belt.
According to a witness who spoke to "Bild", the perpetrator then drew a large knife. The witness managed to flee the shop. The attacker barricaded himself in the supermarket and took a cashier hostage.
Police sent large numbers of officers to the scene, including special units of the SEK. The officers surrounded the building. Negotiators made contact with the perpetrator and attempted unsuccessfully to persuade him to surrender.
It was only the next morning – after more than eleven hours – that the incident commander decided to storm the shop. According to "Bild", the specialist forces used a Taser to overpower the man.
Both the attacker and the cashier sustained injuries. The authorities initially provided no precise information about the severity of the injuries.
According to investigations by "Bild", the perpetrator and the hostage did not know each other before the incident.
