Elderly woman in Munich defrauded of six-figure sum
An 80-year-old woman from Bavaria's state capital has fallen victim to a telephone scam. Unknown perpetrators posed as law enforcement officials and obtained jewellery and gold worth more than 100,000 euros from the pensioner.
The call came in the past week. The accomplice on the telephone claimed that the victim's daughter had been involved in a serious car crash. To secure the alleged detainee's release, the mother would need to deposit valuables as bail. The defrauded woman then handed over the items on various days to unidentified persons who collected the objects.
Investigators are now searching for the suspects and are appealing to potential witnesses to come forward.
