A special investigative commission is handling repeated sexual assaults of intoxicated underage girls near Nuremberg's main railway station. In total, at least 18 warrants have been issued, predominantly against Syrians and Pakistanis.

Nuremberg police detained additional Syrians in case of repeated sexual assaults at station

Novinky.cz reports that in Nuremberg, additional persons suspected of sexual assault of intoxicated underage girls in the vicinity of the main railway station were arrested on Thursday. In this case, at least 18 warrants have been issued so far and 12 people are currently in detention.

Public broadcaster Bayerischer Rundfunk first drew attention to the case on Thursday involving a fourteen-year-old girl, reported on Monday. "During the subsequent investigation, police arrested a suspected 16-year-old Syrian. A second suspect, an 18-year-old Syrian, was arrested on Tuesday afternoon," the news service reported. The girl was allegedly offered an electronic cigarette and coerced into sexual acts before being assaulted in a park — she required medical treatment.

In addition to the two underage Syrians, a 29-year-old man of Palestinian origin without nationality was arrested, suspected of repeatedly supplying intoxicating substances to minors. In August, he attempted to flee from a police patrol and jumped from the city walls into a ditch, sustaining multiple fractures and requiring hospitalisation. The warrant against him was issued subsequently on the basis of collected evidence.

On the same day, newspaper Bild reported the arrest of two additional Syrians, aged 26 and 28. "Both men are accused of independently administering drugs to underage girls and, after the girls were under the influence of hard drugs, assaulting them," the news service quoted police spokesman Michael Petzold.

Similar cases have been reported repeatedly in the vicinity of Nuremberg station over several months. A special investigative commission called "EKO Kajal" is handling them on an ongoing basis. Regional website Nordbayern cited police as stating that "suspects are predominantly of Syrian, Pakistani and North African origin". Court verdicts in these cases have not yet been delivered.
