In mid-June, a walker stumbled upon human remains in Hainich National Park near Schönstedt. Forensic medicine suggests that the deceased was a young man around 20 years old. No signs of violent injury have been established so far.
Investigators in Mühlhausen are faced with a puzzle: neither documents nor a missing person report match the deceased. To obtain clues, the investigators recreated the appearance of the unknown person based on textile remains found and information about age and gender. A photograph of this figure is to be presented to the public.
An electronic device found with the remains is currently being examined for useful evidence. Genetic investigations are also ongoing. The remains were located near a wild boar wallow between two hiking trails. Because wildlife may have visited the spot, the time and location of death cannot be determined precisely.
No vehicle at the nearby Thiemsburg car park could be classified as suspicious. All cars there could be assigned to owners.
