Incendiary devices at Rohde & Schwarz headquarters, two suspects arrested
According to Google News EE — Crime (et), as reported by Bavarian broadcasting (BR), incendiary devices were thrown at a construction site outside the headquarters of technology company Rohde & Schwarz in Munich, Germany, during the night.
The attack took place at a building complex in the Berg am Laim district, which houses offices for several defence industry companies. A witness reported to police around midnight that incendiary devices had been thrown from a moving car. One of them ignited near construction containers — a police patrol that arrived at the scene extinguished the fire quickly. The damage was minimal and there were no casualties.
A second, unexploded incendiary device was also found at the scene. Special units from the criminal investigation office rendered it harmless.
Ludwig Waldinger, a spokesman for the Bavarian state criminal investigation office, told BR that the attack may not have been directed solely at Rohde & Schwarz, since several defence industry companies operate in the building complex. Investigators are therefore treating a political motive as possible. The Munich chief prosecutor's office has also joined the investigation.
Two suspects were arrested at a nearby petrol station — a 28-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man, both Bulgarian citizens. According to investigators, nothing is yet known about a possible motive or background to the incident.
The Munich-based company Rohde & Schwarz manufactures security and communications technology for government agencies and armed forces.
