A gruesome crime occurred in Kelkheim in the state of Hesse on Tuesday evening. A man killed his wife with a stabbing weapon in the middle of the town centre. The incident took place before the eyes of numerous people who were in the vicinity at the time. The victim died at the scene from her severe injuries.
The act occurred around 21:00. Kelkheim is a municipality with approximately 28,000 inhabitants and is located around 20 kilometres west of Frankfurt am Main. The incident happened in the immediate vicinity of the marketplace, where several restaurants and shops are located. At this evening hour, there were accordingly many passers-by in the area.
The woman sustained fatal stab wounds and had no opportunity to defend herself against the attack. Several people present reacted quickly and overpowered the man. They held him until emergency services arrived. During this time, the alleged perpetrator sustained minor injuries.
Police called upon psychological support for the witnesses of the act of violence. Neither the investigating authorities nor the press have so far released further details about the man's identity. The background to the act and the motives of the alleged murderer remain unclear. After his arrest, the suspect was taken into custody.
