A 33-year-old man was remanded in custody for four weeks on Tuesday following charges of serious assault on a newborn baby. The child had two broken ribs and a fracture of the lumbar vertebra.

A 33-year-old man was remanded in custody on Tuesday by a judge at Horsens District Court, according to South East Jutland Police's Police Update. The man was arrested Monday evening and is charged with serious assault on an infant under particularly aggravating circumstances, writes Politiken.
According to the charge, the newborn baby was shaken and jolted as well as subjected to blunt force trauma. During the court hearing, it emerged that the child has sustained two broken ribs and a fracture of the lumbar vertebra.
The violence allegedly took place over a period from the baby's birth in mid-June until the man's arrest on Monday. The charge points to two different addresses in Horsens and the surrounding area.
The 33-year-old denies guilt. After the charge was read out, the doors to the court hearing were closed, and neither evidence nor the man's possible statement has therefore come to the public's attention.
The judge remanded the man in custody for an initial four weeks. He is now considering whether he will appeal the decision to the high court.
The court has imposed a reporting restriction in the case. There is no information available about the man's relationship to the infant.
