Nail salon boss convicted of human trafficking in North Zealand – three years' imprisonment
Eight Vietnamese women were exploited at nail salons in Hørsholm and Farum. This is the first conviction for human trafficking outside the sex trade.
Conviction for human trafficking at nail salons in North Zealand
Helsingør Court has on Tuesday established that eight women employed at nail salons in North Zealand were victims of human trafficking – the first conviction of its kind outside the sex trade, according to TV 2 Nyheder.
The women were lured to Denmark from Vietnam and held under difficult conditions at two salons in Hørsholm and Farum. The working days stretched over 12 hours, and the salon owner had control over the women's bank accounts. The wages, which ranged between 5,000 and 7,300 kroner per month, were transferred to the women's families in their home country.
The owner of Fashion Nails, 39-year-old Vietnamese national Tu Nuong Nguyen, is sentenced to three years' imprisonment and expelled from Denmark with a permanent entry ban.
Her elder sister and her former partner have simultaneously been found guilty of human exploitation under another paragraph of the criminal code. Both are sentenced to one year and six months' imprisonment.
