Greenlandic victims in the so-called spiral case can now receive compensation of 300,000 kroner, but the case is far from closed. This emerges from an article in Politiken.
Greenlandic member of parliament Qarsoq Høegh-Dam rejects that the amount is sufficient. He calls the scheme a "drop" and believes that the systematic interventions to which Greenlandic women were subjected can be characterised as genocide.
If that is the case, Denmark should according to his view be held accountable at an international court.
Høegh-Dam represents the women who, without fully informed consent, had an intrauterine device inserted as part of a state population policy. The case concerns interventions carried out in Greenland over decades and has long been the subject of political debate in Denmark.
