Contact fraud case: suspect charged with 73.6 million kroner in Copenhagen Court
A suspect man is charged with contact fraud primarily targeting elderly people for up to 73.6 million kroner. Copenhagen Police are seeking his remand detention via European arrest warrant.

Suspect for million-kroner fraud against elderly sought for remand detention
According to B.T., a shocking sum came to light on Wednesday in Copenhagen Court when prosecutors sought to remand a man in custody in a major case concerning contact fraud directed particularly at elderly citizens.
The man is charged with obtaining an actual gain of 28.8 million kroner. When attempted and completed fraud are combined, the total reaches 73.6 million kroner, prosecutor Eva Dal Jørgensen stated during the court hearing.
The suspect was not present in court and apparently is not located in Denmark. A remand detention order would give prosecutors the opportunity to issue a European arrest warrant and thus have him apprehended abroad.
The case involves several people. So-called callers rang elderly people from amongst other places Turkey, Thailand and Dubai and posed as police. Once victims had been manipulated, a person would show up at their address to collect their credit cards.
The frauds have particularly affected elderly citizens in Copenhagen and Frederiksberg. In summer, a 21-year-old woman who had worked as a caller and was controlled by three masterminds was sentenced to two and a half years in prison.
