A suspected man faces charges for contact fraud targeting particularly elderly people worth 73.6 million kroner. Copenhagen Police seek remand in custody and a possible European arrest warrant.

Suspect in major fraud not found in Denmark
According to B.T., the prosecution presented a case of extensive contact fraud targeting particularly elderly citizens in Copenhagen City Court on Wednesday. A suspected man faces charges for an attempted total gain of 73.6 million kroner – of which an actual gain of 28.8 million kroner was obtained.
The man is not present in the courtroom and appears not to be in Denmark. The prosecution seeks a ruling on remand in custody, which would make it possible to issue a European arrest warrant and have him apprehended abroad.
Prosecutor Eva Dal Jørgensen stated in the court hearing that the figure of 73.6 million kroner is reached when completed fraud cases and attempted cases are added together.
The fraud occurred when so-called callers rang elderly people and claimed to be police officers. The calls came among other places from Turkey, Thailand and Dubai. Once the victim had been manipulated, a person showed up in person at the address and took the person's credit card. The fraud has targeted elderly people in Copenhagen and Frederiksberg.
Several people have been involved in the criminality. In the summer, a 21-year-old woman who worked as a caller was sentenced to two and a half years in prison. According to the case, she was directed by three masterminds.
