Foreign man killed and found in Gudenåen – police seek witnesses
A foreign man in his 30s or 40s was found dead in Gudenåen north of Svostrup on Monday. Police are investigating the case and continue to seek witnesses.
Murder at Gudenåen: Foreign man found north of Svostrup
According to TV 2 Nyheder, Central and West Jutland Police have now established the identity of the man who was found in Gudenåen near Brovejen north of Svostrup near Silkeborg on Monday shortly before 4:30 pm.
The man is foreign, but police have not yet disclosed further details about his identity, as his next of kin had not been notified by Wednesday morning. This is confirmed by Anne Kirkegaard, press officer at Central and West Jutland Police, to Ritzau.
Murder occurred up to a week before discovery
A passer-by discovered the body in the river on Monday afternoon. Subsequently, police worked at the scene and collected evidence, and suspicion of a crime grew during the night's investigations.
Following Tuesday's post-mortem examination, it became clear that the man had been killed. Police commissioner and lead investigator Kresten Lund Breinhild told Midtjyllands Avis that injuries have been found on the deceased that point to murder.
"The injuries are not consistent with natural death. There are circumstances surrounding the discovery of the man that point against it being an accident," Breinhild said.
Police assess that the murder took place at most one week before the discovery. Because the man may have lain in the river for up to seven days, police urge anyone with information from the relevant time period to come forward.
Witnesses still being sought
In connection with the investigation, police have already spoken with an elderly couple and a surveyor who were near the crime scene. However, police still wish to make contact with witnesses who were in the area and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious – including witnesses who saw the murdered man.
The man is described as 30-40 years old, approximately 165 centimetres tall, slender, with short dark hair and short stubble or long stubble. At the time of discovery, he was wearing light-coloured shorts with vertical stripes.
Police have not disclosed whether the man lived in Denmark or spoke Danish.
No arrests
There are currently no arrests or charges in the case. The investigation continues on Wednesday and in the coming days.
"We are working at full speed on the investigation," says communications officer Anne Kirkegaard from the police district.
