A 45-year-old man of Ukrainian nationality was extradited from Germany to Spain on Wednesday, accused of the murder of Andri Portnov, former adviser to former Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych. The aircraft transporting the detainee landed in Madrid, according to the EFE news agency citing sources from the Spanish Police.
The handover of the suspect took place following an extradition process between German and Spanish authorities. The man, aged 45, is wanted for his alleged participation in the crime committed on Spanish territory.
Andri Portnov served as an adviser during Viktor Yanukovych's time heading the Ukrainian government. Yanukovych was removed from the presidency in 2014 during the Euromaidan protests and subsequently fled to Russia.
Spanish authorities will now take charge of the investigation and the corresponding judicial proceedings. The Spanish National Police confirmed the arrival of the detainee in national territory.
