The Junta de Andalucía has asked the central Government to restore the elite Civil Guard unit disbanded in 2022. Increased drug trafficking activity and lack of resources have prompted the request.

According to ondacadiz.es, the Junta de Andalucía has formally requested that President Pedro Sánchez reactivate OCON-Sur, the specialised Civil Guard unit that operated in Andalusia between 2018 and 2022 against drug trafficking before being disbanded.
Regional President Juan Manuel Moreno, together with the rest of the Andalusian Government, formalised the request through a letter addressed to the head of the central Executive. The request is justified by the increase in drug mafia activity in the region and the insufficient resources of State Security Forces to combat it.
The Counsellor for Public Works, Mario Muñoz-Atanet, conveyed the request from Cádiz, emphasising the recurrence of violent incidents and loss of life in the community. The Andalusian Government believes that criminal organisations have made Andalusian territory their main operational headquarters.
The demand is not new: since the unit was disbanded in 2022, the State Security Forces themselves had been calling for its return. It is now being formalised at an institutional level.
The United Association of the Civil Guard and the JUCIL organisation have joined these requests and are urging the declaration of certain sections of the Andalusian coastline as Areas of Special Significance, a figure that would allow surveillance to be intensified at those coastal points.
