A patient was taken into custody on Wednesday 24 June in Valladolid after carrying out an assault against a healthcare professional at a medical centre in the Castilian capital. The incident arose when the man expressed his anger over the sick leave certificate and the diagnosis issued.
According to reports from ABC, the alert was received at the CIMACC 091 emergency services room at approximately 10 in the morning, indicating that a man was attempting to strike a doctor. A police unit carrying out preventative patrols in the area responded without delay.
Upon arrival, officers found the alleged attacker being restrained by the establishment's security personnel. The doctor explained to them that, after exchanging a couple of remarks, the man adopted an extremely hostile attitude. Suddenly, he pulled a monitor from the desk, pretended he would throw it at the doctor and smashed it against the floor, destroying it completely.
Immediately afterwards, he grabbed the doctor by his clothing and shook him repeatedly, causing injuries to his arm and torso. Security staff managed to immobilise him and keep him under control until the police unit arrived.
After gathering statements, officers read the detainee his rights and transported him to Delicias police station, charging him with assault on a person in authority. The injured party was informed of how to formally file a complaint.
During the identity check, it was established that the arrested man had no criminal record. Therefore, after giving a statement, he was released on conditional liberty with the obligation to present himself before the judicial authority when summoned.
