Man arrested in Vigo after seriously wounding another man with knife blade following football argument
During the night of 21 June, officers from the National Police in Vigo arrested a man as the alleged perpetrator of an attempted murder. The incident occurred in the centre of the Galician city following a street dispute related to a football match.
It all began when the emergency telephone line 091 received an alert about a violent confrontation in a public street. Members of the Citizen Assistance Group belonging to the Local Police Station of Vigo-Redondela were deployed to the reported location. Upon arrival, they spotted an individual running away from the scene. At the same time, they located the attacked person, who presented a wound of enormous severity. Still conscious, the victim identified the fugitive as the person responsible for the attack before receiving assistance.
Given the gravity of the situation, police command decided to act on two fronts simultaneously. One team remained with the wounded person, managing to stop the bleeding from a knife wound on the left flank, just a few centimetres from the heart. Another patrol began pursuing the suspect from the police vehicle.
Officers managed to keep sight of the fugitive as he moved on foot. Despite insistent orders over loudspeaker to stop, the individual continued running. A police unit succeeded in intercepting him by blocking his path with the vehicle, then proceeded to his arrest and took him to the police station.
Emergency services attended the scene and transported the victim to a medical facility as a priority matter due to the seriousness of the wound.
