Woman, 51, shot dead in Málaga as gender-based violence killing investigated
A 51-year-old woman was found dead on Friday at her home in Palma-Palmilla, allegedly at the hands of her partner. The 56-year-old man was also found dead beside her with gunshot wounds.

A 51-year-old woman was found dead in the early hours of Friday at a property on Calle Guadalimar, in the Málaga neighbourhood of Palma-Palmilla, according to lavanguardia.com. The National Police are investigating the case as a gender-based violence crime.
Alongside the victim's body was that of the presumed aggressor, a 56-year-old man with gunshot wounds. All evidence suggests that the man killed the woman and subsequently took his own life.
The alert was received via the 112 emergency service at around 07:30, when several calls reported two lifeless bodies inside the property. Officers from the National Police and healthcare personnel from the 061 emergency service travelled to the location, where they were only able to certify the deaths of both individuals. The incident has caused considerable shock amongst residents in the area.
The investigation has been taken over by the Homicide Unit of the Provincial Police Station in Málaga. According to investigation sources, neither the victim nor the man were registered in the VioGén system for monitoring gender-based violence cases, and there were no previous complaints between them or in their surroundings.
The Unit Against Violence Towards Women at the Government Sub-delegation has compiled information on the case to forward to the Government Delegation Against Gender-Based Violence, the body responsible for its official confirmation as a gender-based murder.
The Ministry of Equality is gathering data on this alleged crime. If confirmed, it would bring the number of women murdered by gender-based violence in Spain so far this year to 24 and to 1,365 since 2003, according to official data from the department headed by Ana Redondo. It would also be the fifth killing of this type in Andalusia in 2026, which would place the autonomous community as the most affected by this class of crime in the current year.
The Government Sub-delegate in Málaga, Javier Salas, extended his condolences to the victim's family members and reiterated institutional rejection of gender-based violence. "We must once again demonstrate society's rejection of what continues to be a major scourge, gender-based violence," he stated through his social media, describing this type of violence as a "persistent scourge".
