Fourth serious victim in León from suspected adulterated cocaine: three previous deaths in Órbigo

New serious victim in León as Civil Guard investigates suspected adulterated cocaine
According to diariodeleon.es, the State Security Forces and Bodies are already considering the hypothesis that a batch of adulterated cocaine is circulating in the province of León. This morning, two Civil Guard units travelled to the Central Mountain region after becoming aware of a case involving a young woman who presented the same symptoms as people who died in the previous days in Veguellina de Órbigo and Villarejo de Órbigo.
The young woman, a resident of a locality near Villamanín, is in very serious condition although emergency services managed to stabilise her. The victim acknowledged being a regular consumer of drugs. Implicitly, the investigation is already working with the theory that the substance was adulterated, either intentionally to obtain greater economic benefits, or through product degradation.
The series of cases began on Saturday with the discovery of two bodies without signs of violence in Veguellina de Órbigo. A third person was subsequently found dead in Villarejo de Órbigo. The young woman treated on Monday in the Central Mountain region is the fourth known person affected. The Government Subdelegation issued an official statement in which it affirmed that the autopsies rule out any connection between the first three cases, and refused to provide information about the Villamanín incident.
The investigation is now focused on tracing the route of the drug, a task that presents considerable difficulties. The characteristics of the substance itself hamper tracking, compounded by the expected poor cooperation from those who may be involved, aware of the legal consequences.
The Civil Guard and National Police remain alert to the possibility of further cases emerging. The security forces prefer not to generate public alarm, although they are focusing their attention on cocaine consumption networks as the primary area of action at the start of the week. At present, there is no official police operation open in relation to these events, although enquiries are being conducted to search for developments.
