Spain's National Police has dismantled an indoor cannabis plantation in a property in the Murcia municipality of Fortuna, according to cadenaser.com. The operation concluded with the arrest of two people who face charges of crimes against public health and electricity fraud.
The investigation began after officers received information about alleged cannabis cultivation activities in a property in the locality, as well as a suspected fraudulent electrical connection. Subsequent enquiries determined that several rooms on the first and second floors had been modified and adapted to house the plantation.
Professionalised installation with irrigation and industrial ventilation systems
The cultivation had an automatic irrigation system using large water containers and industrial ventilation designed to reduce and conceal the odours generated by the plants, with the aim of making detection difficult.
During a search of the property, 1,814 cannabis plants in an advanced state of maturation were seized, ready for harvesting and distribution. Officers also confiscated numerous wall fans, carbon filters, 54 lamp units composed of six rows of LED technology and three extractors, all intended for maintaining the cultivation.
Fire risk from fraudulent electrical connections
The property's electrical installation contained fraudulent connections that generated high electricity demand arising from the lighting systems, ventilation and other devices. The precarious nature of this installation, according to the investigation, could have caused a serious fire risk.
The two arrested individuals were handed over to judicial authorities for the adoption of appropriate precautionary measures.
This intervention is part of a series of operations recently carried out by Spain's National Police in the Murcia Region against drug trafficking, particularly in response to an increase in illegal cannabis plantations detected in recent months.
