Arrested after fleeing on foot with hashish and cocaine in San Bartolomé de Tirajana

According to maspalomas.com, San Bartolomé de Tirajana Local Police detained a 41-year-old Spanish man in the early morning of 4 June 2026 as the alleged perpetrator of a public health offence, during a preventative checkpoint operation on Avenida Alejandro del Castillo.

The operation included specific signage, measures to prevent evasion, and the participation of a canine unit, with the aim of reinforcing public safety and preventing drug trafficking in an area of high traffic.

Officers selected a Volkswagen vehicle for inspection, whose driver displayed nervous and evasive behaviour, initially attempting not to enter the lane designated for the search.

During the vehicle inspection, one of the officers located a bag with several packages containing what appeared to be narcotic substances in the lower part of the driver's seat.

Upon discovering the find, the driver fled on foot. Several officers immediately began pursuing him in the direction of El Botánico shopping centre and towards the area around the GC-1, never losing sight of the fugitive.

During the chase, one officer was injured after falling and required medical assistance. A second officer managed to corner the suspect, who picked up a large stone and maintained an active resistance to police action.

The individual was finally subdued and arrested despite the resistance offered. Local Police seized approximately 1.93 kilogrammes of hashish and 0.41 kilogrammes of cocaine, as well as cash and a mobile phone. The vehicle was transported to the impound for a more detailed inspection and was placed at the disposal of the judicial authorities.

The detainee, the seized substances and items, along with the proceedings instituted, were placed at the disposal of the competent authority.

The Local Police headquarters highlighted the professionalism and operational capacity of the officers, whose actions enabled a considerable quantity of drugs to be removed from public areas under risky conditions. The headquarters also underscored the value of preventative operations as an essential tool for detecting illicit behaviour and protecting public safety.
