Blow to Galician drug trafficking: leader of 'Os Fanchos' arrested with 1,410 kilos of cocaine

Google News ES — Crime (es) reports that National Police detained the leader of the Galician drug-trafficking clan known as 'Os Fanchos' over the weekend, along with two other people, after seizing 1,410 kilos of cocaine, 100 grammes of heroin and cash in A Pobra do Caramiñal (A Coruña).

The operation was triggered on Thursday 20 August, when officers became aware that two vessels—including a drug-smuggling speedboat—had brought a significant consignment of drugs ashore via a beach in A Pobra, with the direct involvement of the gang leader himself.

The investigation was conducted with the collaboration of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Investigators determined that 'Os Fanchos' had been responsible for unloading and safeguarding the consignment, with the investigation focusing on the figure of the gang leader, identified as coordinator of the shipment.

In the early hours of Friday, officers observed a vehicle arriving at the home of the main suspect. Minutes later, a person left the property carrying a rucksack. By the early hours of 22 August, the gang leader and two companions made several trips between his home and a shed situated opposite the property, very close to O Conchido beach, transporting heavy packages.

The investigators, given the characteristics of the packages and the way they were being handled, suspected they contained cocaine. At that point they proceeded to detain the three individuals involved. One of those arrested was responsible for the group's accounts, according to a police statement.

Subsequent searches at the main suspect's home made it possible to seize the total of 1,410 kilos of cocaine, the 100 grammes of heroin, cash and other items of interest to the investigation.

The three detainees were brought before the courts on Monday morning at the Court of First Instance in Ribeira, plaza 1, in its duty capacity.

The operation comes merely weeks after the Civil Guard deployed another anti-drugs operation in Muxía, in which more than 20 people were arrested and 1,500 kilos of cocaine were seized, reflecting the intensity of drug-trafficking activity on the Galician coast during August.
