Officers of the Guardia Civil have arrested an individual in the province of Alicante under investigation as a suspected cyber sexual predator, after locating in his possession more than two hundred storage devices that contained child sexual abuse material, according to information provided by the armed institute in an official statement.

The operation is part of investigations carried out by the Guardia Civil against paedophilia in the digital environment. Agents made the arrest after obtaining evidence of the suspected criminal activity of the detainee online.

The volume of material seized—exceeding two hundred storage devices—demonstrates the scale of the activity attributed to him. Investigators are analysing the contents to determine their origin and detect possible links with child pornography distribution networks.

The detainee has been placed at the disposal of the competent judicial authority. The offences of possession and distribution of child pornographic material are defined in the Spanish Penal Code with prison sentences that can reach five years for mere possession of this type of content.

The Guardia Civil maintains various active investigation mechanisms aimed at prosecuting sexual offences against minors committed through the internet and new technologies.
