Belgian drug trafficking network chief arrested in Barcelona
Spanish police officers arrested a 27-year-old fugitive from Ravels, in the province of Antwerp, in Barcelona. The arrested man is accused of leading a criminal organisation dedicated to bringing cannabis into Belgian territory from the United States through postal shipments. The Civil Guard made the operation public through its official social media profiles, whilst the Antwerp prosecutor's office corroborated the facts, according to reports from VRT.
The individual maintained a low profile in the city, where he attempted to evade the law. His arrest took place before the start of summer. After being brought before the courts in Spain, he was handed over to Belgian authorities on 7 July. A judge ordered his remand in custody pending further investigation. The narcotic substance was subsequently distributed in the local market.
