Man, 47, arrested in Cangas for four violent robberies targeting vulnerable people

Four violent robberies in Cangas: man arrested for attacking vulnerable victims
The Civil Guard arrested a 47-year-old Spanish national and resident of Cangas on Thursday afternoon, accused of four violent robberies and intimidation committed between November 2025 and July 2026, according to lavozdegalicia.es. The detainee, the suspected perpetrator of all the assaults, systematically targeted people who were under the influence of alcohol or who had a recognised disability.
The modus operandi was always the same: locate a vulnerable victim, take their belongings by force and flee the scene, sometimes by bicycle or electric scooter. The consistency in the method of operation was key to investigators linking the various incidents to a single suspect.
The first assault took place on 8 November 2025, at around four in the morning. The suspected perpetrator was cycling when he approached a 50-year-old man sitting on a bench in front of a bank, snatched his bag and fled without causing him physical injury.
The second robbery occurred on 1 February of this year, around one o'clock in the morning. The detainee confronted an intoxicated man, twisted his arm and knocked him to the ground in order to steal his wallet from his pocket. The victim suffered injuries documented by medical records. On this occasion he escaped on an electric scooter.
The third assault on 13 June followed the same pattern: he struck and knocked down another man who was also under the influence of alcohol in order to take the money he was carrying and a packet of tobacco. The victim was also injured, according to medical documentation incorporated into the investigation.
The fourth and final robbery took place on 5 July at 5.40 hours, on a central street in Cangas. According to the Civil Guard, the now detainee attacked a man with a recognised disability from behind, knocked him to the ground and stole a bum bag containing money and personal documents before fleeing again by bicycle.
The investigation included statements from witnesses and other investigative procedures that made it possible to identify the suspected perpetrator and recover some of the stolen items. In one of the cases, the collaboration of the Cangas Local Police was also crucial.
The arrest was made at two o'clock in the afternoon on Thursday. Following police procedures, the detainee was released on the grounds that he had a known address and social ties, with the commitment to appear before the judicial authority when required.
The Civil Guard recommends taking extra precautions during nocturnal hours, avoiding travelling alone while in a vulnerable situation and immediately alerting emergency services or security forces to any criminal act or suspicious behaviour.
