An arrest for alleged trafficking and sexual assault offences against a teenager took place in Torrelavega on 27 June. The detainee, a man nine years older than the victim, allegedly persuaded the girl to leave the residential care centre where she was living and take her to his home in Cantabria.
The investigation began on the night of 26 June, when two women requested help from officers in the city centre. They were a social worker and the mother of a resident who had disappeared from the reception centre ten days earlier. Both had travelled from another region after receiving information that the young woman could be found in the area with an acquaintance.
Based on the information provided, officers organised a search and found the minor near a nightlife venue approximately one hour later. They took her to the police station, where she was placed in the custody of the social worker, the girl's legal guardian.
During a statement made in the presence of both women, the teenager explained that the man had persuaded her with false arguments to go with him. Once inside his home, he allegedly forced her to engage in non-consensual sexual contact and struck her when she resisted. The young woman stated that fear of further punishment prevented her from fleeing.
She also claimed that the detainee attempted to use her in additional illicit activities: offering her to third parties for paid sexual encounters, distributing drugs, and luring elderly people to the home to rob them of valuable items. According to her account, these plans did not materialise.
After identifying the accused, police apprehended him that same afternoon. He subsequently appeared before a judge, who ordered his release on bail whilst enquiries continue.
