Man arrested in Cartagena identified as one of Germany's most wanted fugitives over drug trafficking

Head of international drug trafficking network sought by Germany arrested in Cartagena
The Civil Guard detained a 35-year-old German citizen on 7 July at a property in Cartagena, one of the two fugitives most wanted by the authorities of that country for his alleged involvement in an international drug trafficking network, according to cadenaser.com.
The operation was launched in June 2025 by the Organised Crime and Anti-Drug Team (EDOA) of the Civil Guard in Alicante, at the request of the German authorities. The Federal Office for Criminal Investigation of Germany (BKA) had been investigating since 2021 an organisation dedicated to introducing large quantities of cocaine, amphetamine and marijuana from Spain into the country.
The two men sought were, according to the investigation, the head of the organisation and one of his principal collaborators. Both fled to Spain in June 2025 in the face of mounting police pressure in Germany. Officers located them at different points across the country: the leader in Alicante and the second member in Tenerife, although their continual movements delayed their actual detention for months.
The first man arrested, the fugitive located in Tenerife, was arrested on 28 January. The second, aged 35 and finally identified in Cartagena, was arrested on 7 July. Both arrested individuals, of German nationality and aged 33 and 35 respectively, have been placed at the disposal of the National Court and remanded in custody pending their extradition to Germany.
