Man arrested at Barcelona airport with 31 kilogrammes of cocaine in two suitcases

National Police detained at El Prat airport a passenger arriving on a flight from Mexico City who was transporting 31.093 kilogrammes of cocaine distributed across two suitcases, according to lavanguardia.com on Monday.
The flight in question had been classified in police parlance as a "hot flight", a designation applied to routes where there is a higher probability of detecting travellers attempting to introduce narcotics in their luggage. National Police noted that criminal organisations sometimes use passengers on these routes to introduce drugs into Spain and other European countries.
During routine passenger controls, agents noticed that the man displayed nervous behaviour and answered with hesitation to questions from officials. This prompted his transfer to the facilities of the Customs Service of the Tax Agency, where his luggage underwent a thorough search.
Inside each of the two suitcases, 26 tablets of a whitish and compact substance were found. Analysis using "drug-test" reagents gave a positive result for cocaine, with a total weight of 31.093 kilogrammes.
The detainee was charged with an offence against public health. The judicial authority subsequently ordered his remand in custody.
