Man arrested at Barcelona airport with 31 kilos of cocaine hidden in two suitcases

National Police detained a passenger at Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat airport who was transporting 31.093 kilograms of cocaine hidden in two suitcases, according to antena3.com. The traveller had landed on a flight from Mexico City and was intercepted during a routine passenger check.
Officers became suspicious of the suspect after observing that he displayed a "nervous and hesitant" attitude when responding to questions from officials. This behaviour led them to transfer him to the facilities of the Customs Service of the Tax Agency, where a thorough search of his luggage was carried out.
Inside the two suitcases they found a total of 52 tablets of a whitish and compact substance—26 per suitcase. Drug-test reagents applied to the substance tested positive for cocaine, with a total weight of 31.093 kilograms seized.
The flight on which the detainee arrived is considered in police jargon a "hot flight": a route on which officers maintain heightened surveillance due to the frequency with which some travellers attempt to introduce narcotics. Controls on passengers from these routes are routine at Barcelona airport.
After confirming the nature of the substance and proceeding with the arrest, the detainee was placed at the disposal of the courts. The judge ordered his remand in provisional custody whilst the investigation continues. The detainee faces a charge of offences against public health.
