Street vendor arrested in Arenal for selling cannabis to tourist
Palma Local Police arrested a 44-year-old Senegalese man after witnessing the direct sale of a cannabis joint to a Kosovar tourist on the Arenal seafront promenade.

Palma Local Police detained a 44-year-old street vendor of Senegalese nationality for offering and selling cannabis to a tourist on the seafront promenade of the Arenal. According to the Majorca Daily Bulletin, three plainclothes officers who were carrying out prevention and surveillance work in the area witnessed the transaction first-hand.
The officers were sitting discreetly on the wall that separates the promenade from the beach when they observed the suspect approaching a 29-year-old tourist of Kosovar origin. The vendor openly offered to sell him "some kind of drug". The tourist accepted and asked for a cannabis joint, for which he paid ten euros.
After receiving payment, the suspect left the area. Local police noted that the man was not carrying the drugs on his person, but had hidden them nearby and only returned to the meeting point to collect the dose once the deal was closed. According to the officers, this tactic is common among traffickers to prevent large quantities of drugs being seized during a routine check.
Minutes later, the detainee returned to the place where the buyer was waiting and took the joint out of his trouser pocket. The officers identified themselves at that moment as police and approached both men. The buyer admitted to the facts and signed a voluntary statement on the spot.
The vendor, who still had the ten-euro note in his hand and was not carrying any more drugs, also admitted to what had occurred. The officers seized the joint and arrested the street vendor as the alleged perpetrator of an offence against public health. He was subsequently handed over to the National Police to be placed at the disposal of the judicial authorities.
Local Police have intensified controls in Palma Beach and the Arenal during this summer.
