The Ertzaintza detained a 40-year-old man in Irun on Monday afternoon as the suspected perpetrator of a sexual assault against a woman at an adult entertainment venue in the Azken Portu neighbourhood, according to cadenaser.com. The detainee is also accused of unlawful detention and assault.
Ertzaintza officers, working with the Municipal Police of Irun, attended the establishment shortly after three in the afternoon following an emergency call.
At the scene, officers were informed that a 27-year-old woman had been the victim of a sexual assault and that the suspected perpetrator had prevented her from leaving the venue. In response to this situation, the young woman called for help and a second woman came to her assistance.
The suspect struck this second woman in the ribs as she attempted to help the victim, an act that prompted the additional charge of assault.
At the time of arrest, the detainee was carrying €12,000 in cash. The Basque Security Department noted that this is the man's first arrest by the Ertzaintza.
The detainee was taken to police facilities to carry out the necessary proceedings. Once the initial investigation is concluded, he will be placed at the disposal of the judiciary.
