The National Police detained a man on 18 August accused of forcing entry into 13 properties in Madrid's Centro district, according to noticiasdegipuzkoa.eus. The suspect targeted older buildings with wooden panel doors, whose structure he would demolish with a single kick.
Once inside, the detainee would take small, high-value items—jewellery and electronic devices—to minimise the risk of being detected during his escape. The stolen items were subsequently sold.
The investigation intensified in June, at the start of summer, a period when this type of crime shows an increase. Officers located the suspect while he was moving about in the Centro district and, according to the enquiries, he was preparing to commit a fresh burglary at that time.
After his arrest, he was placed at the disposal of the courts and it was agreed that he would be remanded in custody immediately as the suspected perpetrator of 13 counts of burglary with force in homes and one count of fraud.
On the same day, the National Police also arrested the arrestee's romantic partner as the suspected perpetrator of one count of receiving stolen goods, having sold items from the burglaries. During the operation, officers seized several pieces of jewellery and a watch linked to the investigated robberies.
