The National Police have arrested a man who allegedly sold two counterfeit iPhones for 700 euros and offered imitation gold chains in second-hand goods shops.

A man was arrested on 1 July in Palencia accused of committing a fraud crime. The arrest was made thanks to an officer who, although not on duty, saw him offering costume jewellery as if it were gold in shops in the city centre.
The report placed the individual in a premises on Calle Panaderas. Several units were dispatched there and intercepted him before he managed to defraud anyone. After verifying his identity, officers detained him.
In an inspection of the rental vehicle he was driving, parked nearby, officers discovered 2,500 euros hidden under a seat. They also seized a chain with a gold appearance and documents that proved relevant to the case. It was later confirmed that the jewel contained no gold.
Investigators managed to link him to a fraud reported on 16 April. On that occasion, someone paid 700 euros for two telephones that the detained man presented as high-end iPhone 17 Pro Max models. The purchase was made near Calle Mayor Principal. Afterwards, the buyer discovered that the devices were counterfeits. The image provided in the report allowed investigators to identify the same man.
The alleged fraudster was placed at the disposal of the judicial authority. Investigators do not rule out that he may be connected to other similar scams being investigated in other provinces.
