A sobbing telephone call alerted the authorities. According to elmundo.es, a 41-year-old woman contacted emergency services to report that her partner had sexually assaulted her on Saturday night in the presence of her four-year-old daughter at a property on Guadalcázar Street, in the Madrid district of Puente de Vallecas.
The call triggered a joint operation by the Municipal Police and the National Police, who located the alleged perpetrator at the address and proceeded with his arrest. The detained man is a 45-year-old Peruvian, accused of an alleged sexual assault offence and gender-based violence.
The victim explained to officers that the assault was not an isolated incident: she had suffered years of abuse, threats and attacks at the hands of her partner. According to police sources, the woman decided to break her silence hours after the latest attack, after discussing what had happened with several close relatives.
Following his arrest, the detainee was initially taken to the Puente de Vallecas National Police station and subsequently to the offices of the Family and Women's Care Unit (UFAM), located on Federico Rubio y Galí Street, where the police report investigation continued.
In parallel, the protocol for assistance to victims of sexual assault was activated. Municipal Police officers attended to the woman and transferred her to Infanta Leonor Hospital for evaluation. The child was provisionally placed in the care of relatives.
Police sources noted that the victim described a lengthy history of serious abuse, with repeated episodes over the years. The report filed following the latest attack was what enabled the arrest of the alleged perpetrator.
