One detained in Ribeira in connection with the death of a man following an assault in the church square

The National Police arrested a man aged between 30 and 40 on Thursday in Ribeira in connection with the violent death of a man in his sixties, according to lavozdegalicia.es. The incident dates back to the night of Sunday 24 May, when the victim was found lying on the ground and bleeding in the square of the Church of Santa Uxía.

After receiving initial treatment at the scene, the man was taken urgently to Barbanza hospital due to the severity of his injuries. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he died subsequently. The investigation determined that the death was violent in nature and that the victim had suffered serious head trauma.

The arrest was made following inquiries carried out by officers from the National Police Corps, who were responsible for clarifying the facts of the case. The detainee is expected to be brought before a judge on Friday.

Sources consulted by the Galician media suggest that the incident may have occurred during an attempted robbery. According to this hypothesis, the victim was assaulted and, in the course of a struggle, fell to the ground and struck his head with such force that the injuries proved fatal.

The investigation remains open pending a determination by the judicial authority regarding the possible involvement of the detainee in the incident.
