The National Police arrested on Wednesday an 18-year-old of Ukrainian origin as a suspect in the death of a 44-year-old resident in the Murcian hamlet of Zarandona. The detainee will be taken to the on-duty court in Murcia.

Sources close to the investigation indicate that the arrested man is being charged with involuntary manslaughter. The deceased was discovered last Friday morning lying on the ground in the Los Geranios garden, a space where the village's festival grounds are located. Neighbours who found him confirmed that he still showed signs of life, although his condition was extremely serious and he had wounds on his face.

Eyewitnesses stated that the man was alone next to a wall, with blood in his mouth, broken lips and his cheekbone damaged by impacts. Those who found him were unable to determine initially whether it was a loss of consciousness or an assault, so they requested medical assistance by calling 112.

The victim was evacuated to a hospital, where he died hours later. The Zarandona community has organised tribute events in his memory, including a religious ceremony and a floral offering attended by family members and neighbours.
