A young man from Barcelona was arrested after losing control of his vehicle in the crowd during the Motorada. The weekend's toll includes one motorcyclist killed and 18 accidents.
Local and National Police arrest driver who caused panic during the Motorada
A 25-year-old from Barcelona has been arrested as the alleged perpetrator of the reckless driving incident that occurred during the Motorada of El Puerto de Santa María, part of the Spanish Grand Prix Motorcycling event, according to elpuertodesantamaria.es.
Images circulated on social media and in the media showed how the car invaded areas close to the pavement and crossed dangerously onto the roadway, putting pedestrians and the large crowd gathered in the surrounding area at risk.
Following the incident, Local Police officers immediately launched a joint investigation with the National Police to locate the vehicle, which had been hidden, and identify the driver. The investigation culminated in the arrest of the young man, who faces alleged offences against road safety for reckless driving with manifest disregard for the lives of others. He was placed at the disposal of the judicial authorities.
The El Puerto de Santa María municipal authority highlighted the swift and coordinated action of both police forces in response to "absolutely intolerable conduct that endangered dozens of people". The municipal institution warned that further arrests linked to similar conduct recorded during the weekend could occur in the coming days.
One dead and 18 accidents in the 2026 Motorada toll
The overall assessment of the security operation deployed during the Motorada reveals more serious figures. The municipal authority mourned the death of a 39-year-old motorcyclist from Salamanca, who died on Sunday at around 8:20 on Avenida de la Libertad whilst heading to the Jerez circuit. Medical teams were unable to save his life due to the severity of the impact. The circumstances of the accident are under investigation.
During the weekend, a further 18 accidents were recorded—4 serious and 14 minor—as well as 8 offences against Road Safety. The total number of citations for traffic violations reached 1,062: 197 processed through the General Directorate of Traffic and 865 under the General Traffic Regulations. Eighteen vehicles were immobilised, 6 removed and 20 towed away. Numerous reports were also filed for drug possession.
The municipal government team reiterated its commitment to public safety and stressed that it would act "with maximum firmness" against any uncivic or criminal behaviour that jeopardises peaceful coexistence and the integrity of residents and visitors.
