The Guardia Civil intercepted a 26-year-old man travelling on a ferry from Barcelona. A detection dog found the drugs in two hidden compartments in the vehicle.

The Guardia Civil arrested a 26-year-old Moroccan national in the early hours of Sunday at the port of Alcudia, Mallorca. Officers intercepted his motor vehicle, a BMW Series 2, after receiving information about a possible drugs transport from Barcelona.
The detainee was travelling on board a ferry operated by the Baleària company. At around 3:45 in the morning, officers proceeded to inspect the vehicle. During questioning, the driver contradicted himself on several occasions. He explained that he had purchased the vehicle for €17,000 in cash during his stay in Barcelona, but could not remember the seller's name and did not have documentation to verify the transaction. Among his belongings he was carrying €2,750 in notes of 50, 100 and 200 denominations.
A dog trained in the detection of narcotics indicated two areas of the motor vehicle. Officers confirmed that the original structure of the car had been modified to create hiding places. The vehicle was transferred to the Guardia Civil barracks in Palma, where it was dismantled in the presence of the arrestee, who did not cooperate at any time.
In the two hidden compartments, eight packages totalling 16 kilogrammes of cocaine were found.
The detainee was placed at the disposal of the judicial authorities on Monday morning, being remanded in custody.
