Two arrests at San Fermín for non-consensual touching
Municipal officers in Pamplona detained two individuals on the opening day of the festival as suspected perpetrators of physical sexual abuse. The information team against sexist violence, based in Plaza del Castillo, received half a dozen alerts during the first hours of celebration. Five of them corresponded to improper physical contact and the remaining one to making insults with sexual connotation.
Of the five complaints about physical contact, two were escalated to formal reports, which allowed the identification and subsequent arrest of the two suspects. The municipal service established for these festivities functions as a reception point where women can receive specialised assistance, information about where to seek help, opening hours and, if they wish, accompaniment. If a user requests it, the protocol for follow-up and accompaniment is activated. On this first day, this mechanism was not activated. The space is designed to create an environment of trust, protecting the identity of those who attend and maintaining the confidentiality of their data.
