Two arrested for robbing gold chain from 87-year-old man in Santutxu
Ertzaintza and Bilbao Municipal Police detain two young men of North African origin for the violent robbery of the elderly man. Both have been remanded in custody.
Violent robbery in Santutxu: two arrested for assaulting 87-year-old man
According to ertzaintza.euskadi.eus, officers from the Ertzaintza and Bilbao Municipal Police have arrested the two suspected perpetrators of a violent robbery committed on 13 July in the Bilbao district of Santutxu. Both arrested individuals have been remanded in custody after being brought before a judge.
The incident took place at midday on a street in the district. The two perpetrators approached the victim from behind: one restrained him forcefully whilst the other wrenched the gold chain from his neck. As a result of the assault, the man fell to the ground. He was 87 years old with Spanish nationality, and was transferred to Basurto Hospital with serious injuries.
The investigation conducted by the instruction team handling the Municipal Police report led to the identification and arrest of the first suspect on 22 July in Bilbao. He is a 27-year-old man of North African origin with a police record for property crimes. The court ordered his remand in custody.
The investigation continued and the second perpetrator was identified, whereupon the investigating judge issued a location order. On Tuesday 28 July, officers from the Durango Ertzaintza station arrested him in Lemoa. The arrested man is 21 years old, also of North African origin, and had a record of property crimes, having been arrested or investigated on five previous occasions by the Ertzaintza. He was brought before the Durango on-call court, which also ordered his remand in custody.
